Product Review : Hiro Cosmetics No Doubt Natural Foundation
issue three : fear they neighbour
I remember when I accidentally stumbled on this on this natural makeup journey, some 11 years ago, the only "natural" products you could find were loose mineral powders.
I remember being very excited about them at the time, but more so because no one else I knew was using them. I even went so far as to learn how to make my own. The truth is though, loose mineral powders are messy and don't fare well on older skins. Commercially bought ones contain ingredients that can agitate skin and they are filled with shiny mica that often leaves the wearer looking like a glow-worm. Despite mineral makeup being available in a whole array of shades, darker skin tones were still left ashy and grey because of their high titanium dioxide content.
While there are still a number of brands that produce loose mineral powder (Hiro Cosmetics being one of them I might add) because they do still have the occasional place in our makeup kits, the new generation of natural liquid foundations are, without a doubt, a game changer (the 'game' being the professional use of clean, green beauty).
Hiro Cosmetics (who are responsible for the cult beauty concealers, Space Balm) have recently launched a range of nine liquid foundations, and I am in love. This collection considers nearly all skin tones, and with its medium coverage, semi-matte formulation filled with delicious, untainted ingredients, it's great for modern day film camera's (a.k.a. RED, 4k, 8K, etc, etc) as it offers skin integrity, without being too shiny OR leaving you with the dead look that so many matte foundations can do as, well as just everyday wear, of course.
It is very important to note, that it is not only dark skin beauties that have trouble finding a foundation to match their skin colour, but also, the fairest of the fair. Lots of brands haven't quite mastered the art of not adding a "rosy" tint to foundations, leaving very pale skinned wearers with that awful pink jawline look. Hiro has catered to both, and I think we should salute them for that!

It's always worth giving liquid foundation a good, old shake before using it, as pigments tend to separate, which is totally normal by the way. If you feel that the texture is a little heavy for daytime wear, simply mix it into your favourite moisturiser for a tinted-moisturiser look. Hey presto, two finishes in one!
